A special thanks goes to Ms. Cameron, Ms. Currie, Ms. Rever, and Ms. Lethbridge for designing the float, as well as to all of the students and families who were a part of the day. The float looked amazing, and we were so proud of its first place finish once again! A huge thank you is also due to Towne Towing in Midland for generously donating the driver, truck, and trailer for the parade.

Despite our library still being on the stage, a student population that is beyond the capacity of our gymnasium (let alone when parents and/or grandparents join in the festivities), we are forging ahead, once again with our Christmas concert. A special thanks to Mr. Kent and Ms. Keefer for giving up their space for the week! Creative minds hashed out a schedule so that all loved ones would have the opportunity to come and watch the students celebrate the joys of Christmas. Our evening will be divided into four separate time frames, with the kindergarten students going first, followed by grades one to threes, fours and fives, and finally the grades six to eight group.

When tragedies like this occur, it causes us to re-examine the important things in life and to ‘not sweat the small stuff’. Hopefully, we all have time to hug those we love a little more, spend some quality time with friends and family, and appreciate the memories and moments that we create over the summer.

Finally, the School Board, Burkevale students, staff and the parent community received the long-awaited news of the approval of a new Burkevale School. Lord knows, we certainly need more space, and the excitement of creating a learning environment for every student to thrive individually and collectively is awe-inspiring. There is a portion of our new building that brings some sadness - 39 Burke Street has been Burkevale’s home for over a century! We shall grow and create new blossoms, but never forget our roots.

Spring is also a time for growth and learning. Students are regularly asked to take risks and learn from their mistakes. Maybe spring is a time for everyone to heed this advice. It seems like only yesterday that kindergarten parents watched teary-eyed from the gate as their three and four year olds began their academic journey at Burkevale. Now, with June upon us, we will witness more teary-eyed parents as their ‘not-so-little’ children graduate from Burkevale and start a new academic journey of their own. We will miss them all! Spending ten years with a group of students, supporting them as they learn, grow and mature, is one of the most fulfilling parts of being in education. Without fail, there are always students who touch our hearts, for a variety of reasons. It is those little moments, that as a parent that you remember - those moments that help to shape them, but also yourself. May you and your family enjoy the little moments this summer because in the blink of an eye, the 2023-2024 school year will be upon us!
